I feel very blessed to work at I.C.C.S.. My husband, Paul and I, moved from Mineral Wells, Texas in order for our 2 children, Micah and Gabby, to attend I.C.C.S. I look forward to getting to know your child throughout the school year.
Teaching Background: I love teaching and learning with equal passions. I have been teaching 17 years. I have obtained numerous certifications over the years to help the diversity of students. The certifications include: Classroom Teacher, Composite Science, English as a Second Learner, Early Childhood, Gifted and Talented, and Special Education. I received the District Teacher of the Year for Taft I.S.D. in 2009 for the gifted and talented pull out program.
I believe everybody needs to have goals and dreams in life. Since I was in fifth grade, I wanted to become a marine biologist and travel to Australia. In 1993, I graduated from Texas State University with a marine biology degree. My very first job was in Alaska as a bio-technician. I was paid to fish!!! With the money I earned from Alaska I was able to travel to Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji for 4 months. I camped a lot and worked on farms for free room and board. I developed a passion for traveling and learning about other cultures. Shortly afterwards I became a Peace Corps volunteer and lived in the Philippines for 3 years. I trained women on business skills and conducted teacher trainings on environmental education. After Peace Corps, I traveled around Asia to Laos, Nepal, Thailand, and Central America. I feel very fortunate and blessed to be born in the United States with all the wonderful opportunities we have. I’ve seen a lot of poverty in other countries. For example, when I volunteered in Tijuana, Mexico the children were living in a landfill and eating garbage they found. A lot of people in third world countries don’t have the same opportunities we have. Through a good education and hard work it is possible to achieve dreams in the United States. I want students to have goals, work hard, value their education, become life-long learners, discover their God given talents, fulfill their purpose, and DREAM BIG!
Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns. I look forward to a fun and exciting school year.
