The text used is “Sadlier: Grammar for Writing.” There is a book that corresponds to each grade level. Each sequential book then builds on the concepts that were taught in the previous year.
Vocabulary
The students will continue learning vocabulary through the Sadlier-Oxford program and use academic vocabulary from their other studies.
Writing
Practice is the best way for students to become better writers! To help facilitate this, the students will get a new journal prompt every other week. These “Journal Writes” are meant to encourage students’ creativity and give them practice writing. Once a month, there will be journal checks to ensure that the students are writing. Once a quarter, the students will be assigned to type up a Journal Write from the quarter. At this time, the students will have to opportunity to revise and edit their writing before it is graded formally.
Along with the Journal Writes, there will also be various writing projects throughout the year. I aim for one “major” writing assignment a quarter for grades 6 and 7.
Students must use MLA formatting for all writing assignments. (Unless otherwise stated.)
