In order for you to get to know me better, I would like to give you a brief biography about myself. I was born in Dallas, Texas and I was raised in a Catholic family with four sisters and two brothers. My wonderful parents have been married 66 years and still live in the same house where I was raised. From an early age, I wanted to be a teacher. My mother was a teacher and she was an excellent role model for me.
I was fortunate to be able to attend Catholic schools for most of my education. I attended St. Pius X for elementary school and Bishop Lynch for high school. After high school, I attended UNT, which was then known as NTSU or North Texas State University. While attending college, I met my husband Rafael. On my graduation day, I decided not to attend the ceremony. I chose to go to a different ceremony-my wedding. This was also the day before my 21 st birthday. Needless to say, it was a very busy weekend!
As a newlywed, I taught kindergarten and also worked for a decorating company. In August of 1984, God blessed my husband and me with our twins, Ben and Becky. When the twins were 4 years old, I went back to teaching fulltime. I taught first grade for 8 years. When Ben and Becky were in 6 th grade, I went back into the business world.
Twelve years ago, God led me back to teaching here at ICCS. Immaculate Conception has been my parish for the entire 40 years of my married life, and it is such a privilege to teach at this school. My husband and I have been involved in the music ministry here at ICC for all of our years at the parish. We currently play and sing at the LifeTeen Mass, which our son Ben leads. My husband and I also help with the music for the Spanish Mass on Wednesday evenings and Sundays.
Our son Ben and his wife Kristina are members of this parish. Ben is the high school youth minister at ICC and helps direct the Upper School Choir at ICCS. Kristina is the athletic coordinator and Pre K-3 teacher at ICCS. Ben and Kristina have five children, Lukas, Cecilia, Sebastian, Felicity, and Zalie. Our daughter, Becky and her husband (who is also named Ben), are both doctors in the Waco area and have two daughters named Clara and Emily.
Teaching at ICCS is so important to me because I am not only able to teach academics, but I am also able to share my Catholic faith daily with all of my students. I feel so blessed to be here, and I look forward to this next year teaching your child.
