Governor Abbott's Report on Opening Texas - 4/27/2020
Coronavirus (COVID-19)If you suspect that your child may have symptoms of COVID-19, please make sure the child sees a health care provider immediately.
Children’s Health℠ is offering a free virtual health screening.. Free screenings are being offered 24/7 with code: COVID19 through their Virtual Care program. Through a virtual visit, families can video chat with a health care provider right from home through a smartphone, tablet or computer about illnesses, injuries and mental health.
You can use Virtual Visit to address common conditions such as coughs, respiratory infections, colds, sinus infections, fever, flu, headaches, diarrhea, strep throat and pink eye.
Virtual Visit is not for serious or life-threatening conditions. If you have an emergency, go to the emergency room or call 911.

Dear Parents,
Thank you for your prayers and your ongoing perseverance during these very difficult times. We are trying not to inundate you with too many emails as we know you have so very much on your plates with all of the changes as we transition to being homebound which includes the launching of online schooling. We know this has been very overwhelming for all of us; we are hoping the weekend will give us a bit of a breather so we can recharge our batteries a bit for what is to come next week.
A few important items:
--Per Governor Abbott's Executive Order, all Texas schools will remain closed through April 3 with all schools reverting to online or additional educational options. The order could be extended based on the ongoing situation:

--Bishop Michael Olson has issued several pastoral letters closing churches and limiting gatherings. These letters can be viewed on our school website or the diocesan website. We miss you all so much. You are in our intense prayers. Our teachers and staff have been nothing but heroic as they have rolled out learning communities on such short notice. March 17, 2020Dear ICCS Families,
Thank you for your patience as we begin implementation of online learning here at Our Lady’s School. We know this will be a challenge on so many levels. Know that we will be working with you hand-in-hand as we are all in this together. We ask for your prayers, and know that you have ours.
Our teachers and staff have been working extremely hard to roll out this type of learning that is a transition for all of us. There will be a learning curve on the part of all of us, so know that we will be building our program as we learn together. As you all know, this continues to be a fluid situation, so we have the expectation that we will continue until we get official word that we can reopen. Of the utmost concern is the safety of our children, families, and our society.
Our teachers will be in constant contact with you with the intent of carrying on instruction as consistently as possible. We know some families will struggle with the assignments for a variety of reasons, including difficulty of scheduling, technology, or the learning curve. We understand that many of our parents are not teachers by occupation; we just ask that you do the best you can and keep in frequent contact with your teachers. We also understand that some students may be ahead of the curve, so we will be working hard to provide extension activities for those students.
We will be officially launching our online learning this Thursday. As some of your teachers have already communicated, it’s important to come up with a daily schedule since we all do better with patterns and routine, especially children. Make sure that you have a designated area in your home so materials can be readily accessed and be organized. This could be a table that is organized by subject area or by schedule. It’s important to have a designated place in the home that is the prime area for school time. Extraneous electronics, background television, etc., should be greatly discouraged during school time. A great idea is to break down the learning time into a different part of the day by subject, maybe try reading and writing in the morning and math and science in the afternoons! ROUTINE HELPS LEARNING.
(See below for an example of how you might consider scheduling.) Finally, DON’T FORGET PLAY TIME AND FAMILY TIME!! It’s important that the children have those activities, such as walking, outdoor play time, and other exercise that help them feel secure and to help relieve any stress or anxiety.Please be kind to yourself and to your child/children as we get this new type of approach underway. If you are struggling with an assignment, skip it and let the teacher know. Remember that assignments can be done any time of the day. We welcome feedback as we continue through this process. Included in the learning will be useful links to resources that will assist the learning process.

We remain prayerful and will remember our theme of the year as we KEEP OUR EYES ON JESUS. Challenging times such as these remind us who is really in control. DON'T FORGET TO INCLUDE DAILY PRAYER IN YOUR ROUTINE AND SCHEDULES. This would be a great opportunity for a daily family Rosary for our country. We are encouraging that our families, if possible, pause at 3 p.m. each day and pray for those who have the coronavirus and for healing of our land. Let us continue to ask for His help and the intercession of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception.

Dear ICCS families,
Bishop Michael Olson provided the updated pastoral letter which directs all diocesan schools to be closed until Monday, March 30.
Thank you for your patience as we plan for the best based on this ever-changing situation. We will plan to return to campus in two weeks on Monday, March 30, until further notice. All activities, meetings, practices, and any events are also cancelled through March 30th.
We will continue to send updates throughout the weekend and as needed during this time period. We will be communicating with teachers over the weekend and hope to have a plan in place no later than early next week to begin learning opportunities for our students. Teachers will be in contact with families and students throughout the week by email with opportunities for assignments and continued learning.
Teachers will assess their curriculum and work to determine the most important assignments and activities to keep students engaged during this time. Please do not stress over assignments. Teachers will work with students and families. This is not an opportunity for busy work, but merely an opportunity to review previously learned material and prepare for upcoming lessons and material.
